Excellent Tiling and Montage

In the template the user can predefine a large number of parameters. As well as the tiling template, the height and width of every single section of the poster, overlapping on several sides, job-specific section numbering and many other options may be defined. Even a job-specific spread group, in which it may be possible that poster sections are not mounted in their normal order, is definable.

Within the framework of the spread group definition the same mark may be positioned differently on different sections or press sheets. To save paper, the remaining section or sections of a poster may be mounted fully automatically in multiple copies on a press sheet.

Flexible Data Import

VIVAPOSTERIZE can import all the relevant image formats, such as EPS, LAY, TIFF, CT, LW or also all PDF files (PDF Format 1.6).

Data already imported can be updated automatically when the original data is altered. In this way last minute changes of content are possible at any time.

VivaPosterize: Millions of posters. One program.

What is VivaPosterize?

VIVAPOSTERIZE is the leading tool for extremely fast automatic digital tiling and output of posters and billboards. Already on the market since 1999, the program has since then been setting new standards in speed, safety, flexibility and functionality.

Developed in co-operation with leading printers in offset and screen printing, VIVAPOSTERIZE is able to process documents with a speed and precision which has never before been achieved. It’s no wonder then that millions of posters and billboards are produced with VIVAPOSTERIZE every year. Our customers produce posters for local and international advertising campaigns of well known manufacturers as well in the food and drink, automobile, fashion, cosmetics, furniture, electronics and media industries as well as many other fields. Therefore you will surely at least once have seen a poster or billboard which has been produced by our software!

How does VivaPosterize work?

VIVA has from the very beginning followed a completely new and revolutionary path in electronic imposition. The starting point for the development was that our customers wanted to be able to manage the complex technology as simply as possible. Just three simple steps are necessary in the Workstation version of VIVAPOSTERIZE to process a job completely in just a few minutes: data import, poster tiling and output. Only one step is necessary in the Server version to complete a job in seconds: to transfer data to the server, which will complete the tiling and output fully automatically.

Import & Export of Adobe InDesign Files

You can open documents created with the layout program “Adobe InDesign” (hereinafter referred to as “InDesign”) directly in the program.

Please read the section “Opening Abobe InDesign documents” in the manual.

The following InDesign formats are supported:

Format Designation Brief description
INDD InDesign Document The native standard document format for Adobe InDesign. Contains layout, text, images, styles, and metadata. The format can be opened directly in the program via File > Open.
IDML InDesign Markup Language XML-based exchange format. Used for version compatibility (older versions of InDesign). The format can be opened directly in the program via File > Open.
INDT InDesign Template Template file for InDesign. Contains predefined layouts and styles that can be used as a starting point for new documents. The format can be opened directly in the program via File > Open.
IDMS InDesign Snippet Individual layout elements or objects (e.g., text or image frames, groups) can be saved as snippets and inserted into other documents. The format can be inserted into document pages directly in the program via File > Import.
ICML InCopy Markup Language XML-based exchange format for Adobe InCopy. Used to allow editors to edit text independently of the layout. The format can be imported directly into text objects in the program via File > Import.
ZIP Zigzag Inline Package ZIP archives are not an InDesign format, but a general compression format. You can save an InDesign document (e.g., in INDD or IDML format) together with images and fonts as a ZIP file. The format can be opened directly in the program via File > Open (including resources). Please note the information in the section “Opening ZIP archives”.

To do this, the program converts the document into its own format so that they are saved in their own format when you save them. Depending on the edition, the program can also export documents in InDesign format. Please refer to the corresponding section Export InDesign document.

Font Embedding

A huge problem in the exchange of documents is the distribution and handling of fonts:

  • Many users do not want to share their fonts.
  • In many cases, fonts cannot be installed without Administrator rights.
  • Additionally installed fonts frequently clash with fonts that are already installed.

With VivaDesigner, all these problems may be solved with a mouse click by automatically embedding all the fonts used in the document.

International co-operation

VivaDesigner was specially developed for the creation of multilingual documents and international document exchange:
1. Editing of ALL languages AND writing directions in one single uniform application and document format (incl. Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Korean).
2.Multilingual user interface in about 20 languages, which can be switched on the fly.
3. Standard colors and Style Sheets are optionally translated automatically according to the selected language. In this way, just one single document can be passed to users with different languages for editing. With this technology, companies, agencies, printers or service providers can create document “templates” that are understood immediately in every country.

Odessa Print

Odessa Print in South London, one of the UK’s leading poster printers and Printweek’s Poster Printer of the Year 2004-2005, has optimized its workflow with VivaPosterize and Kodak’s Prinergy Evo system for a full PDF workflow.

The creation and output of large format posters is very demanding and time-consuming. Odessa Offset, whose customers include Anheuser Busch, Procter & Gamble, Saatch & Saatchi, Panasonic, BMW, Air France, British Airways and Coca-Cola, had for some years been searching for a professional solution to enable them to increase their production speed while at the same time maintaining the high quality for which they are already well known.

Dean Orchin, the Production Director, said: “Odessa needed a solution that enabled the output of the UK standard large formats such as 48 sheet posters (6 x 3 metres, 12 sections) and 96 sheet (12 x 3 metres, 24 sections), that fulfilled the specific printer’s requirements for the output, and, above all, was very fast.”

In 2003, Creo EMEA in Waterloo, Belgium (now Kodak) supplied Odessa with a Brisque RIP and Trendsetter VLF CTP unit together with VivaPosterize for MacOS 9.

“The Viva-Creo workflow solved our colour problem for us”, said Mr. Orchin. “We used the colour mapping function to map spot colours to process colour plates, or map identical spot colours together, which we couldn’t do before. From importing the job into VIVA to the output of the first plate takes about 5 to 6 minutes.”

At the end of 2005, Odessa took delivery of the world’s largest offset press, the KBA Rapida 205. The huge plates enabled an output of two sections per plate for the main poster formats of 12 x 3 metres and 6 x 3 metres, thus cutting down considerably on production run time. By the end of 2006 the production was already running smoothly and the company took delivery of an upgrade of the VivaPosterize software to MacOS X. At the same time the extended functiomnality of the software enabled templates for bus sides to be created, whereby multiple sections with differing measurements could be output on one plate.

“It was among other things the speed and the simplicity of the whole process which impressed us,” said Mr. Orchin. “With the new press we are putting two poster sections on one plate (2060 x 1510mm) and our production is increasing considerably with our Kodak/Viva poster workflow.”

The success of Kodak’s Prinergy Evo system with VivaPosterize in both France and Spain convinced Odessa that it was time to upgrade their RIP hardware. The migration from the old Brisque system to Prinergy Evo in November 2008 was completed comfortably in just a few days.

With Prinergy Evo and some adjustments to VivaPosterize to allow a full PDF-in, PDF-out workflow, production speed was brought to a maximum, with the added improvement in speed of transfer of the CIP3 colour files to the press.

“This new system has improved our production enormously,” said Mr. Orchin. Where before it took several hours for the colour information to come to the press, we now need just 40 minutes for processing all 24 plates of a 48 Sheet poster as well as transferring the colour information to the press, so we are producing many times faster than ever before.”
